Cross Country Skiing on Vatnajökull icecap, Europe's largest glacier

In this trip we start to drive up to the mountain hut Jöklasel at Skálafellsjökull (altitude 800 meters) at the southeast side of Vatnajökull. From there we cross country ski some 9 km to a peak called Brókarbotnstindur (altitude about 1300 meters). At this peak we have marvellous views down to deep valleys, high mountains and of course across Vatnajökull icecap.
The way back is easier, since we will be descending all the way back to Jöklasel mountain hut/restaurant.

Another popular version of the Snow Tour is to use assistance of Glacier Jeeps. At Jöklasel we enter the specially equipped 4WD jeeps and drive the 9 km onto the ice cap, to one of the greatest viewpoints in Iceland (or the world) at Brókarbotnstindur. There the jeeps leave us behind and we cross-country ski back to civilization.
This version is recommended for people that have little or no experience of cross country skiing, or if people are in a hurry or would simply like to use the opportunity to take a ride with these monster jeeps.
