Travel
service
is a small
tour company located in Öræfi in southeast Iceland, at
the foot of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe (see
info about Oraefi).
FROM COAST TO MOUNTAINS organizes wide
range of tours for people who wish to experience the
glaciers and mountains of southeast Iceland on foot all
year round!
To achieve this, we hike, climb or
ski, with aid of crampons, snowshoes or skis, and the
destination can be a short visit to glacier close to the
hotel (Ice Tour) or full day
ski ascent of Iceland’s highest
mountain, Hvannadalshnúkur (Mountain
Tour),
or something between!
In the summer we concentrate on the
increasingly popular bird watching trip with tractor drawn hay wagon to Ingólfshöfði
Nature Reserve (Coast
Tour). We take about 4 thousand people there each summer. We have started an easy Kayak Tour
on the waters of Hofsnes
also.
Please note. Now in late March 2008 we have fully booked
the spring/summer in mountaineering trips. Check out

for glacier hikes etc. here in southeast Iceland this summer. We are always able
to take more people to Ingólfshöfði and we will also be able to do some Kayak
trips this summer. We can book mountaineering trips again after 10/10.

- My name
is Einar Rúnar Sigurðsson and I manage the tour
company "From Coast To Mountains" with
my father, Sigurður Bjarnason and my wife Matthildur Unnur
Þorsteinsdóttir. We live on
the farm Hofsnes in the county Öræfi, but
Öræfi has been the residence of my family for
at least 600 years. My father started to do a bird watching trip to Ingólfshöfði in 1991, when he
gave up farming and found a new use for his hay
cart. On Saturday before Pentecost
1994 I started to guide people up to the top of
Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnúkur.
Now I have been 231 times on the
top of Hvannadalshnúkur (since 3rd of May 2008) wich
is a world record.
Since 2000 when I married Matthildur Unnur (or Matta) she has
been doing more and more of the trips to Ingólfshöfði, but at the same time my
father Sigurður is retiring. He is now over 75 years old so he deserves to
take it easy. But at the same time the third generation is starting to work in
the company, our oldest son Aron Franklín (17 year old) will help me and Matta
doing the trips this summer.
We do trips all
around the year, every days of the week except Sundays!
The President of
From Coast To Mountains travel service (God) told us to work 6 days of
the week but to rest on the 7th day. You can see for yourself in the
Manual of From Coast To Mountains travel service (The Bible Ex 20:9-11).
Since we (Matta and Einar) are pastors in the groving
Pentecostal Church
in Höfn and go there most Sundays, we ask travel agencies and
everybody elso to do us the favor of not trying to book trips on
Sundays.
